Green power producers warned on BEE commitments

THE Department of Energy on Monday issued a stern warning to renewable energy companies that have sealed long-term agreements with the government and Eskom to stick to their commitments, including the advancement of black economic empowerment (BEE).

The companies, whose projects were given preferred bidder status in the independent power producer (IPP) procurement programme, will invest approximately R47bn in local power generation.

The department’s director-general, Nelisiwe Magubane, told the IPPs: “We will be watching you to make sure that you deliver on your (BEE) commitments.”…
