State still to decide on major power projects

THE government would take decisions on major power projects as part of the country’s long-term electricity plan “at the right time”, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said on Friday.

The integrated resource plan for electricity (IRP2010) makes provision for additional coal and nuclear capacity, but the government is yet to make decisions on this additional power capacity…

(Editor’s note: Coal 3? Nuclear? Natural Gas? More renewable energy? Another oil refinery? We desperately need the Integrated Energy Plan, IEP, instead of various ministers responding to lobbyist and making ad hoc decisions. However all we have is a deathly silence about the IEP and an updated IRP.)
